چکیده

Using high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy ~ARPES!, we examined the charge density wave ~CDW! compound 1T-TaS2 as a function of the photon energy ~energy range from 11 up to 33 eV! for both quasicommensurate ~QC! and commensurate ~C! CDW phases. While the QC-phase normal emission ARPES spectra coincide with previous results, normal emission spectra of the C phase reveal evidence for a fine structure in the CDW-induced features between 1 eV binding energy and the Fermi level. This fine structure may be explained by the subband manifold of the Ta 5d band, split off due to the CDW-induced A133A13 superstructure.

On the Phase Transitions in 1T-TaS2

The temperature-dependent electronic structure of 1T-TaS2 near the Fermi level, determined by means of angle-resolved photoemission with high-energy resolution of 35 meV, exhibits a distinct energy gap associated with a metal-semiconductor transition at 180 K on cooling, whereas on warming up the retransformation occurs in the electronic structure at 280 K. The complex phase transformation beha...

Clocking the melting transition of charge and lattice order in 1T-TaS2 with ultrafast extreme-ultraviolet angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy.

We use time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy with sub-30-fs extreme-ultraviolet pulses to map the time- and momentum-dependent electronic structure of photoexcited 1T-TaS(2). This compound is a two-dimensional Mott insulator with charge-density wave ordering. Charge order, evidenced by splitting between occupied subbands at the Brillouin zone boundary, melts well before the lattic...

Stacking order dynamics in the quasi-two-dimensional dichalcogenide 1T-TaS2 probed with MeV ultrafast electron diffraction

Transitions between different charge density wave (CDW) states in quasi-two-dimensional materials may be accompanied also by changes in the inter-layer stacking of the CDW. Using MeV ultrafast electron diffraction, the out-of-plane stacking order dynamics in the quasi-two-dimensional dichalcogenide 1T-TaS2 is investigated for the first time. From the intensity of the CDW satellites aligned arou...

arge density waves in 1T-TaS2: an angle-resolved photoemission study

The transition metal dichalcogenide 1T-TaS2 is a layered material exhibiting charge density waves. Based on angleresolved photoemission experiments mapping spectral weight at the Fermi surface and density functional theory calculations we discuss possible mechanisms involved with the creation of charge density waves. At first the flat parts of the elliptically shaped Fermi surface appear to pla...

Spectroscopic signatures of a bandwidth-controlled Mott transition at the surface of 1T-TaSe2.

High-resolution angle-resolved photoemission data show that a metal-insulator Mott transition occurs at the surface of the quasi-two-dimensional compound 1T-TaSe2. The transition is driven by the narrowing of the Ta 5d band induced by a temperature-dependent modulation of the atomic positions. A dynamical mean-field theory calculation of the spectral function of the half-filled Hubbard model ca...
